Red Cedar.  Toona Australia, Toona Sureni, Toona Kalantas

VLO verification is available in some cases.

Red Cedar is historically a premier Australian furniture and joinery timber.  Very little of the species is now harvested within Australia. Red Cedar, the common market name now Surian, is imported from Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Surian varies in colour from pink to dark red. Surian enjoys a very strong position in the Queensland exterior market and to a lesser extent still desired in manufacture of traditional style furniture.

The air-dry density is approximately 420kg/m3. Generally easy to work though at times the occasional “woolly” characteristic caused workability problems. Readily available in 25mm, 38mm and 50mm thicknesses, to a lesser degree in 75mm and 100mm thickness.
